You could do it yourself and experience the colours, sights & people of the Mumbai City. If you do a leisurely walk of this Old Part of Mumbai City, it would take you 3 hours to see it all in Fort, South Mumbai. You could start this tour from R Poddar Chowk, which is situated across the Bhika Behram Well, its between the Oval Maidan and Cross Maidan. Proceed thereafter down Karamveer Bhaurao Patil Marg, its lined with beautiful heritage buildings, including the Bombay High Court, the University of Mumbai and the Old Secretariat, which was once the British Governor’s House. Take a right turn from here towards Madame Cama Road, its named after Bhikaji Rustom Cama, a Parsi feminist freedom fighter, she became famous after she unfurled a prototype of the Indian flag at a Socialist Conference in Germany in the year 1907. As you walk this road, you will reach SP Mukherjee Chowk, better known as the Regal Circle. Here stands a fountain built in 1865 and dedicated to Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington. On the southern side of the circle stands the artistic Regal Cinema. Considering you are so close to the Gateway of India, we recommend you walk down to visit this historical structure and spend a couple of minutes viewing the Mumbai Harbour, if you have time, you could also take a Harbour Cruise from the Gateway of India . Later proceed back towards the Regal Cinema and take a right on to Mahatma Gandhi Road, which runs along the western wall of the Bombay Fort. On the left are exhibition halls of the National Gallery of Modern Art and on the right the impressive Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghahalaya, earlier known as the Prince of Wales Museum. Continue down past the Elpinstone College and the David Sasson Library and then take a right into Kala Ghoda. Here you will find the cities famous Music Store called Rythm House. You may want to pick up some music from here. Then later proceed on your right onto the a narrow lane called the Dr. VB Gandhi Road. This was once a covered gully called the Ropewalk Lane, which was filled with cable makers for the city’s docks. Today, just one rope shop remains. On the right is the charming Kenneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue. Cut left on to the narrow Master Road into the heart of the finance district on Dalal Street, near the Bombay Stock Exchange. Take a left on to Mumbai Samachar Marg past St. Thomas Cathedral to the grand Horniman Circle and the Asiatic Society. From here turn right on to Shahid Bhagat Singh Marg past the Monetary Museum and left on to the hectic Sir Pherozeshah Mehta Road, lined with lively shops and stalls. From here take left into the hawker infested arcades along the pavement of Dadabhai Naoroji Road to Flora Fountain. With this we would have completed a very interesting walk.
